June 23rd, 2001, was a red-letter day in the history of Nenagh Golf Club, when the President of the Golfing Union of Ireland performed the official opening of the newly developed course. Founded in 1929 as a nine-hole course, the Club has made tremendous progress since, culminating in the present layout, the result of dedication and hard work by Officers and Committees over several years.
Much praised by members and visitors alike, Course Architect, Patrick Merrigan, has designed a very fair test for every golfer, irrespective of ability or experience. Thirteen new sand-based undulating greens are guarded by intimidating bunkers and are providing a challenge for even the most fastidious of putters. Nenagh has always been unique by reason of the nature of its soil and the excellent drainage and firm surfaces allowing play all year round. The re-designed course is fast maturing and is set to become one of Ireland’s most popular courses.
Amenities at the club include a practice area, chipping and putting greens, and full bar and catering facilities, Professional, Ryan McCann, provides a well-stocked shop and is available for lessons and has clubs and buggies for hire.
